Johan Alberts
celebrating diversity and a homogenized society through art

Born in Pretoria, Johan loved creating art from an early age, with his school years mostly revolving around the art classroom!
We explore the background and provocative work of the incredibly talented Johan Alberts.
After studying Theatre Crafts at the Technikon Pretoria and graduating with a master’s degree in Entertainment Technology from the Tshwane University of Technology and adding research to the field of Scenic Design, Johan became a lecturer in Scenic Painting and Design at the Tshwane University of Technology for the next 12 years.

He spent 2018 at The JamJar in Dubai in 2018 as the art facilitator for the YAP (Young Artists Programme returning to South Africa in 2019 to focus on creating art.

With a keen eye for current trends and specializing in décor and style for homes and offices.
Johan creates bespoke art pieces and exhibits his paintings online and at galleries. (Murals for homes and businesses are also in Johan’s repertoire.)

Having held numerous art exhibitions in South Africa, The Netherlands, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates, Johan’s paintings now grace the walls of some of the most stylish homes and restaurants in South Africa, Singapore, USA, Canada, Kenya, Australia, United Arab Emirates and The Netherlands.
His latest thought-provoking art series is driven by the theme of ‘DIVERSITY vs HOMOGENEITY’.

The existence of differences within a particular frame is referred to as diversity while homogeneity is the quality or state of being all the same or all of the same kind.
Differences and similarities in ethnicity, culture, religion and a variety of other themes are being explored. Commentary is given on emancipation, strength, immortality, beauty and pain with the ultimate goal of inclusion. Johan consciously shines a spotlight on prejudices and promotes unity through altering and reworking familiar famous artworks.

Let us celebrate DIVERSITY and a HOMOGENISED society through ART!
