Aunty June's Spicy Russom/King Soup

My mum always used to make this when we had a cold or flu!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon Jerra /cummin
  • 1 tablespoon whole black pepper corn
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seed
  • 2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 4 pieces garlic sliced or you can leave it whole
  • Med onion sliced
  • 1 small tomato
  • Salt to tast
  • 1 tablespoon seedless tamarind
  • You can add chicken filets or boiled dhall if you wish.

Method:

Heat a tablespoon oil and add raw rice and fry till golden and set aside.
Sauté onions, garlic, peppers and mince in a little oil in another pot and stir for 10 mins.
Add the tomato and onion mix, tomato paste, lentils, chilli and curry and stir into the mince mixture. Add the water and simmer for approx. 6 minutes.
Add rice and raisins, mix well and place in a casserole dish, cover with bacon.
Bake covered at 325F or 180C for ¾ hour and serve with a salad or garlic bread.
